Andrés Hermida
Andrés Hermida is a Spanish-Colombian filmmaker and alumni of the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD, ’24). His work blends magical realism, social critique, and emotional depth, often examining the surreal undercurrents of contemporary Latin America.
Beyond filmmaking, Andrés has contributed to cultural discourse through his TEDx talk, Magical Realism: Embracing the Absurdity of Latin America. In it, he traces the genre’s historical and political origins while reclaiming it as a contemporary, decolonial tool for Latin American artists navigating identity, absurdity, and survival.
Currently based between Colombia and the U.S., Andrés’ work challenges perception while embracing the wonder, contradiction, and chaos at the heart of Latin American life.
